A catch up with new recruit Will Lees

Sedgley Park’s new signing Will Lees is relishing the challenge to be part of the Tigers squad and believes the side can be a real force in the upcoming campaign.

Lees completed his move to Park Lane this summer following four years at Preston Grasshoppers.Speaking to Sedge’s club website, Lees said: “I am very excited to be with Sedgley Park. They are a good side and always aim for those top four places and promotion. The club sets very high standards.

“There is a growing atmosphere at the club and having trained with team several times now, it a step-up but a good change in level. Sedge like to play and I think that suits me well. Everyone is buying into the system and the way we play which is great.”

Lees’ time at Preston ended in disappointment last term as the Lancashire side suffered relegation to National Three North, but having played in the fourth tier of English rugby for the past few years, he is more than aware of what it takes to succeed in National Two.

Lees added: “Preston is a great club and we were unfortunate last year. It was frustrating as well because we really did compete, but didn’t get the rub of the green at times.

“It is a tough league and as we come into this season, it has improved again. In terms of Sedge, I think the expectation to finish in the top four has to be the same.

“Everyone wants to win as much as possible. Who wants to lose? What is the point in playing if you don’t aim high? Everyone will be expecting us to be a strong contender and I believe we can have a strong season.”

Sedgley Park begin the new season away at Sheffield Tigers on Saturday, 2nd September.
