It is with great grief and sadness that we must report the passing of Tony Smith on Sunday after months of bravely borne illness following the removal of a brain tumour.
Our thoughts are with Josie, Rebecca and Ian, Greg and Tom, Rob,Olivia and Niamh together with the extended family, all of whom are Sedgley Park stalwarts.
Over fifty years Tony served as a player, club Chairman, President and Lifetime Honary Member. He filled many posts from social to groundwork, never declined a job, but most importantly he was the greatest committed supporter ever.
The stand will be a strangely quiet place without Tony’s vocal encouragement to the players and advice to the ref.
Tony has been an important integral part of our success over these fifty years and always with a cheery welcoming smile to everyone. Tony will be missed by all who were touched by his good nature, his enthusiasm, and his love for this club, its members and players and Rugby in general.
Details of the funeral and a Celebration of Tony’s life will be posted when they are known.
