Coach Talk – A report from Steve Hazzelby

After a hard fought home win against Huddersfield the previous week we were looking to build on the performance and record our first away win of the New Year. Unfortunately this did not happen and we went down the fourth loss of the season Last Saturday we made the long trip up to Tynedale in the first away game of the New Year. They had beaten us at home back in September 7-12 in a game that we could and should have won. We had trained well in the week leading up to the game and spirits were high within the squad. Unfortunately conditions on the day were not conducive to open Rugby with gale force winds and driving rain going straight down the pitch. Coach Talk – A report by Steve Hazzelby

What a great reaction to the disappointment of last Saturday after narrowly losing to Fylde. Nine tries, seven conversions and a well deserved five point win. On Saturday we played Scunthorpe in our last home game before Xmas and what a great game of Rugby it turned out to be. Conditions on the day were good, considering the amount of rain we had received in the days leading up to the game but it was not until the 19th minute that we scored our first try with a well taken score for no 8 Mark Goodman, after a powerful drive from captain Bob Birtwell, converted by Oli Glasse. This was followed six minutes later with a beautiful try for Oli himself after a wonderful run from full back Leon Simpson and support work from centre Rob Holloway. World Cup Quarter Finals – England v Australia

Having qualified top of their group, England now play Australia in the Quarter-Finals, on Saturday morning. The game kicks off at 8-15am. Why don’t you come and support England. Order your Full English Breakfast, or Breakfast Roll, when you arrive and it will be ready by half-time (~9am). The bar will be open so you can enjoy a pint, whilst cheering on your team. If you want to stay around, New Zealand are playing Ireland in the second Quater-Final at 11-15am. Should still be breakfast available and the bar will be open. “Rise and Shine” is the motto, so get down to your club this Saturday for a feast of rugby. Lets see England and Ireland make it throught o the Semi-Finals.
