What a great reaction to the disappointment of last Saturday after narrowly losing to Fylde. Nine tries, seven conversions and a well deserved five point win.
On Saturday we played Scunthorpe in our last home game before Xmas and what a great game of Rugby it turned out to be. Conditions on the day were good, considering the amount of rain we had received in the days leading up to the game but it was not until the 19th minute that we scored our first try with a well taken score for no 8 Mark Goodman, after a powerful drive from captain Bob Birtwell, converted by Oli Glasse. This was followed six minutes later with a beautiful try for Oli himself after a wonderful run from full back Leon Simpson and support work from centre Rob Holloway. Scunthorpe hit back with an excellent try of their own from their left winger but another great burst into the line by Leon Simpson saw him go over the line and give us the lead 19-7 going into half time.
The second half started well with a score for prop Ben Black after great interplay between backs and forwards followed twelve minutes later with a lovely score for Rob Holloway after a clever chip over from fly half Steve Collins. We were now playing some fabulous fifteen man rugby which Scunthorpe had no answer to. Our set piece was solid and our strike plays incisive which led to our sixth try for captain Bob Birtwell after 64 minutes. 36-7 in the lead going into the last fifteen minutes.
Further great scores were to come from Ben Black (his second), Oli Glasse (his second) and finally scrum half Callum McShane, This was an overall great squad performance from 1-20 and gave us the well deserved 5 points to keep the pressure on the top two teams . Fylde are in second place just four points in front, havinglost at Sheffield, and Caldy are topping the table going into the festive break.
On Saturday we are on the road away to Yorkshire rivals Wharfedale. We took the honours earlier in the season at Park Lane but we know this will be on of the hardest games and will require a top performance. Please make the journey into the Dales and support your wonderful Tigers team.
Cheers, Hazz
