What another great team performance from the Tigers following on from the wonderful efforts of the previous week. On Saturday we were away to Sheffield Tigers a team that had won six of their last seven games. They were lying fourth in the league just one place behind us so we knew that this would be a hard, difficult game agains’t an in-form team.
Conditions on the day were difficult with a freezing fog covering a soft, muddy pitch. Sheffield started strongly and scored a converted try within the first six minutes but we hit back five minutes later with a lovely try from full back Leon Simpson converted by Oli Glasse. We were playing some solid controlled Rugby with a strong scrum and accurate lineout that provided a firm platform for our back line. After some powerful, driving play by the forwards we got our second try through our dynamic flanker Will Lees on the twenty minute mark. Sheffield got their second converted try six minutes later but a penalty by centre Oli Glasse just before the break saw us go into half time with a 15-14 lead.
We started the second half well with a great converted try for hooker Matt Gallagher after a fabulous catch and drive from the forwards. Ten minutes later we got our fourth converted try and the winning bonus point through our inspirational captain Bob Birtwell. Sheffield did get their third try after 68 minutes but the day belonged to the Sedge Tigers with a well deserved 29-19 win. This was an immense effort from the whole squad for the whole 80 minutes against a team who had only lost twice at home so far this season. It is always hard to pick out individual players because everyone gave their all but special mention to our 20 year old second row Connor James who put in a man of the match performance from start to finish. Well done Connor !!
Next Saturday we are away to old rivals Fylde in a top of the table clash. This should be a great game, with second playing third in the league. Everyone is looking forward to this game to see who is the top team in Lancashire. Come along and give your full support to your wonderful Tigers team.
Cheers Hazz
